Walking your dog is beneficial to your mental health

Walking with your dog can help reduce depression and anxiety. We have an instinct to experience a physical connection with other living creatures and dogs share this sort of behaviour too. A physical bond can strengthen an emotional relationship between you and your dog.

Walking is just one type of physical interaction that can enhance the bond between pet and owner.

Hugging and expressing love to your furry friend during a walk, or sitting on the sofa at home, directly improves your mood. This physical touch directly affects a certain area of the brain called the hypothalamus. It acts as the emotion centre of the brain, so when you walk or hug your dog, chemical signals are fired directly from the hypothalamus to produce hormones in other areas of the brain that function to promote positive connections and bonding.

Make yourself happy with a hug from your hound!
