How much water does my dog need to drink?

Size of dog

On the average, a healthy dog drinks about 1/2 to 1 ounce of water per pound of body weight per day.

A healthy diet is as important as water and the type of food your dog eats affects his water intake. If your dog eats dried food, they will need a little more water than those that eat wet food.

Puppies need about a 1/2 cup every two hours. Older dogs tend to naturally monitor themselves.

Always take water on any long walk with your dog. After exercise, make sure your dog has access to water.

Summer means panting which means an increase in water intake.Make sure clean fresh water is available at all times during hot weather.

If your dog takes regular medication, check with your vet to see if you need to decrease or increase your dog’s water intake.
