Keeping fit and Active this summer

With Summer fast approaching, it’s a good time to make sure we’re taking note of our dogs’ fitness and keeping them active.

Many of us assume our dogs are getting enough exercise, but that may not be the case. When your pets aren’t getting the right amount of exercise, it impacts their health and wellness.

Vets say that between 20 to 40 percent the dogs they see in their offices are overweight and many are considered clinically obese. Obesity causes a host of issues for dogs such as increasing risk of some cancers, placing a burden on joints, decreasing stamina, and cardiac problems just to name a few.

Taking note of your dog’s fitness levels and making sure your dog is active keeps your pet healthy and agile, helps with weight control, and increases positive behaviour from them.
